What do I do in an emergency?

In any emergency that is life threatening you must immediately dial 000 for emergency services.

Will I go to the Emergency department?

If you require emergency medical care you are advised to present to the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) Emergency Department. Here you will be seen by one of the Department of Emergency doctors. They will contact your Obstetrician/Gynaecologist for further treatment and advice as necessary.

For our Obstetric Patients:

If you are concerned birth is imminent, please dial 000 for emergency support. Should you experience the onset of labour pains, or if you have broken your waters, there is vaginal bleeding or experience a reduction in your baby's movement, please call the Birthing Suite at the Launceston General Hospital on 6777.8960.

North West patients should present to Burnie Hospital or Mersey Hospital, LaTrobe in the event of an emergency. If you are not sure what to do, please call the Birthing Suite at Launceston General Hospital and speak to the midwife who will then advice if it is safe to make your way down to Launceston to be assessed.

A midwife will ask you questions to determine the current issue and advice you if you need to present to Labour Ward or the Pregnancy Assessment Clinic (PAC) at the LGH. The Birthing Suite staff will contact your obstetrician directly.
